Creative Evaluation Software Programs Key for Reaching Software Developers, says Evans Data

Ninety-five percent of software developers download evaluation copies of software from vendors, with 70 percent evaluating what they download and 80 percent of those buying at least some of the software they use. Other important trends and facts for marketing to software developers have been uncovered from the latest Developer Marketing Patterns Report by Evans Data Corp.

“The challenges of selling in today’s market can be overwhelming if you don’t know who you are selling to and what techniques are most effective,” said John Andrews, president and CEO of Evans Data Corp. “One of the most effective tools for reaching developers is having creative evaluation software programs as part of an overall marketing plan – how the software is made available, length of evaluation, time bombs, and price points. This report will help vendors prioritize best marketing practices, and reach software developers in the most effective way possible to increase sales.”

Other facts brought about from the report include:

  • Online newsletters are one of the best ways to market to software developers.
  • Pop-up ads are despised by over 90 percent of those surveyed.
  • Email (not spam) is favored for vendor communications, and surprisingly, snail mail is an effective means of reaching out to developers.

The research was completed in January of 2008, with 386 surveys taken. Contact Evans Data for more information.
